The Story

The Pilgrimage Bowl

Hand-Painted Narrative Porcelain · Kintsugi-Inspired Details · Jingdezhen

For soup, noodles, shared dishes, or as a collectible object

The Pilgrimage Bowl draws its narrative from Journey to the West, a story shaped not by perfection, but by the long journey towards it. The monk's unwavering determination, Sun Wukong's rebellious spirit, and Zhu Bajie's all-too-human desires and weaknesses are not flaws to be erased — they are what make the characters enduringly alive.

Its imagery takes inspiration from historic woodblock prints, whose sharp carved lines and expressive tension carry the traces of another time. Gold-toned repair details highlight rather than disguise the appearance of fracture and imperfection, transforming the idea of restoration into part of the visual narrative.

At the heart of the piece is the Chinese philosophical idea 大成若缺 — “Great perfection appears imperfect.” Here, imperfection is not treated as failure, but as evidence of time, experience and endurance.

Reimagined by JingTale as a contemporary soup bowl, the piece brings an ancient narrative into an everyday ritual.

Perfection was never the destination.
Carry the journey with you.

Our Philosophy

Art should be lived with.

We create pieces meant to be used, cherished, and passed down—bringing beauty to the ordinary, every day.

Craft deserves context.

We honor tradition by placing each piece in dialogue with its origins, culture, and the hands that shape it.

Fewer, better things.

We believe in intention over impulse—creating in small numbers, with care, and with lasting meaning.

Our mission

We do not want these objects to remain beautiful things from another culture, admired only from a distance. We want them to live with you.

We felt that sense of calm and strength ourselves. Our mission is to pass a little of it on.

Through thoughtful curation, cultural storytelling and new ways of using traditional forms, we hope to build a bridge between Jingdezhen and contemporary life around the world — allowing every piece to carry its history forward while finding a new purpose, a new ritual and, eventually, a new story with you.
